A Path to Teaching: Jose Luis' Inspiring Journey from Coach to Educator

Jose Luis Diaz, Educator Pathway

Jose Luis has mastered the balance between his roles as a father, high school soccer coach, and first generation college student.

When his younger sister needed a Coaching Assistant for her soccer team, he jumped at the opportunity and led with his love for sports. However, despite his dedication to his role, Jose Luis felt that he had reached a professional ceiling and searched for greater opportunities for growth and advancement.

"After going through 4-year universities and community colleges, I found it increasingly difficult to balance the demands of being a functioning adult, day-to-day coursework, and working full-time," Jose Luis shares. "I feel a sense of responsibility to not only pursue my own educational goals but also to fulfill my mother's dream of having all four of her children graduate from college."

Driven to achieve his full potential, Jose Luis joined Rivet School's Educator Pathway — a program designed to fast-track the path to teaching. Through Rivet School's innovative approach to education through a partnership with Southern New Hampshire University, Jose Luis found the flexibility and support he needed to balance his responsibilities as a parent, coach, and student.

For Jose Luis, earning his associate degree from Rivet School was just the first step in his journey towards achieving his long-term goals. With aspirations of earning his master’s degree and ultimately becoming an Athletic Director to coach soccer at the college level, Jose Luis sees his goal to earn a bachelor's degree as a pivotal milestone in his five-year plan.

"My bachelor's degree is just the first step towards fulfilling my dreams," Jose Luis shares. "With Rivet School's support, I am confident that I can continue to pursue my goals and make my mother proud."
