Harold's Journey from First Generation Immigrant to Ed Tech

Harold Dichoso, Graduated in 23 months

As a first-generation Filipino immigrant, Harold faced numerous challenges on his journey to earning his bachelor’s degree.

Among them, Harold Dichoso took on the financial burden of attending various community colleges and beginning a career in nursing.

"At the age of 32, and during a global pandemic, I decided to give school another chance," Harold shares. "I realized that without a degree, I was being filtered out by a checkbox when applying to new jobs."

Driven by a desire to challenge himself, Harold embarked on his journey with Rivet School. With flexible, accelerated, and online degree programs, Southern New Hampshire University’s partnership with Rivet School offered Harold the opportunity he needed to earn his degree while balancing the demands of full-time work.

"I wanted to make sure I was secure and successful in all the things I wanted to accomplish in the future," Harold explains. "Earning my degree was not only a personal goal but also a way to ensure a better future for myself and my family."

Today, Harold works as a Customer Success Manager at BookNook, an ed tech company that offers high-dosage tutoring for youth. Additionally, he serves as a consultant for the City of Berkeley, designing a post-high school internship program.

As Harold looks back on his journey, he is filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. "Rivet School has given me the tools and support I needed to succeed," he shares. "And I am excited to see what the future holds for me and my family."

In only a year and a half, Harold graduated with his Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications through Rivet School’s partnership with Southern New Hampshire University. As he continues to make strides in his career and give back to his community, Harold serves as an example of what is possible when we dare to dream big.
